CRICOS re-registration
On 3 March 2010, The Governor-General gave royal assent to the Education Services for Overseas Students Amendment (Re-registration of Providers and Other Measures) Act 2010. This includes an amendment which requires all current providers registered on the Commonwealth Register of Institutions and Courses for Overseas Students (CRICOS) to re-register by the 31 December 2010, and introduces two new registration criteria. The Act also requires state and territory to take a risk management approach to re-registration. This means the actual process each provider will have to undertake for re-registration will vary according to an assessment of risk. All providers, however, will need to apply for re-registration and DEEWR will notify you in the near future about the timeframes and process for making this application.
The AEI website http://www.aei.gov.au/AEI/ESOS/Default.htm#4 provides you with more information about the re-registration measure and other amendments.
NQC Announces Changes to AQTF Standards
On 3 December 2010 the National Quality Council (NQC) announced that it has endorsed changes to the Australian Quality Training Framework (AQTF) Essential Standards for Registration. Information about the revised changes is available from the NQC website http://www.nqc.tvetaustralia.com.au/aqtf_2010 The changes were supported by the Council of Australian Governments at its meeting on 7 December 2009.
The NQC advises that implementation will be effective from 1 July 2010.
The Department of Further Education, Employment, Science and Technology will be working with the NQC to ensure that all Registered Training Organisations in South Australia are informed about arrangements for transition to these new standards. You will note that a number of the new requirements in the Conditions of Registration are similar to those in the current Guidelines for RTOs registered in South Australia under the Training and Skills Development Act 2008.
